As I grown up in different cities in Luzon, I have seen the ethical and non-ethical behavior of different people. Advocacy: WOMEN AND CHILDREN PROTECTION/EMPOWERMENT

With my fellow women and our children facing physical abuse, harassment and oppression, my stand point on the situation is deeply felt. Most of the people who are close to me have also related their experiences it. Here I am using this platform to advocate for this issue because it has existed for a long time and we are still fighting for the rights and freedom that our fellow women and children deserve to have. It’s still a work in progress, and my view may not make a big major step forward, but speaking up is always better, rather than causing harm, remaining silent, or even doing nothing at all. Considering the reality that patriarchy still dominates us, there are times when we simply accept the way things are because that’s how things have always been. I fervently hope that this will change all throughout and onwards. It may be a tough battle, but let us not let that stop us from fighting for the greater good. It is important to recognize that we must fight for the rights of women and children because, besides that being a simple form of freedom and human rights. The future of this world is in the hands of women, and the children are the key to the betterment of our future.

As educated people, youth and Miss Caloocan 2023 candidate who are fully aware of how our actions impact the environment, and who understand sustainable tourism, I will use this pageant as to be my platform and stepping stone to educate others by spreading awareness on the same. We should lead by example as individuals, groups, organizations, companies and even governments, driving up the awareness to more policymakers, who can enable long-term change on a systematic level. Advocacy: Transformative Education through Leadership for the Youth

I am a proud product of the University of Caloocan City, a free, open-access and equal opportunity granted by the local government. I graduated with a degree in Political Science, and proudly as a dean’s lister. I’m currently in the legal field and in a renowned law firm. Hence, the inspiration of what I’m advocating in the Miss Caloocan stage.

Transformative Education is a modern approach type of learning adapted by globally-competitive youth and first-world countries. It focuses on individualistic traits of every learner and acknowledges differences and specialties in every child, rather than standardizing education it harnesses their interest and passion more than the practicality of other professions. How can these be made possible?

First, through “Learning Drives” initiated by professionals as volunteers, A lot of citizens in Caloocan are in-fact successful in various fields (medical science, social science, legal, arts and culture, etc.) through said drives, aside from imparting their learning’s on their areas of expertise, they stood as role models for the youth, that a once batang Kankaloo is capable of thriving in the real world.

Second, is through conducting “Long-term Programs with the help of the Sangguniang Kabataan”, a bad publicity is intertwined with the name of SK, phrases such as “puro pa-liga”, “puro pa-pageant” are only few things we heard running on the internet. What if I tell you that we can make the tables turn and make it as an advantage? The thing is, youth joining in the said activities are passionate enough. Aside from short-term programs, the local government of Caloocan could make this as a starting line for long-term ones, like creating a sports unit not just in schools but city-wide, where training is focused and consistent, or like camps or official organizations funded by the city, a public library for the researchers, an auditorium for the performers, a freedom museum for the artists and many more. This could create a major training ground for every competent and well-versed Batang Kankaloo we delegate to represent the city, and who knows, starting from here, they could represent the Philippines, we just have to fund and invest in their dreams.

Third, this is where leadership comes, a “Voter’s Education; their Rights and their Obligations” seminars will be mandatorily provided to everyone, not just the youth, but everyone. We think ahead of the future. We do not simply harness talent; we harness future leaders and preachers as well. The legacy we started will not end if we teach them that the future shall not be feared because a Batang Kankaloo is always prepared.

Through education, a lot of major problems will be prevented; violence against women and children, abuse of animals, lack of awareness in mental health, environmental issues, and a lot more. A school is where we start to not just teach academics but also build their moralities. We have the power, as a government by the people, to extend the opportunities circulating in schools outside the four corners of the classroom, if we would just help each other, and always visualize for a better future. It starts here, with one voice, and a thousand of eyes will open.

ASHLEY S. ALFARO

Candidate #22 - Brgy. 28

Advocacy: ADVOCACY CAMPAIGN FOR CHILD WELFARE

I’m Ashley Soriano Alfaro, a Human Resource Graduate from University of Caloocan City, And now working as a Marketing Representative in an IT Company. Every time I leave for work or go out to run errands, I am not surprised to encounter some families and children on the streets who are suffering from the brunt of poverty in our country. Nowadays, almost everybody is fully aware of the poverty that is happening in the Philippines. Many people are striving so hard to have something on their table to eat. Children, youth and adult are working different job that may be legal or illegal. And as the time goes by, I slowly understand and appreciate the value of awareness, education, provision and guidance that the children should have as they grow up.

I was 13 when I started joining projects and organization included outreach, protection, and education on the streets program, (Pictures below). Aside from the fact that it is fulfilling as individual, it will help you as well to be woke on what’s happening outside your home, your school, your church and your community. At a very young age, I knew that not everybody was born with privilege, and there are many children outside who are being abused, malnourished, and without hope of fulfilling their dreams.

My advocacy campaign is to raise awareness about these children, I know that we are all aware of this situation, and I believe that the next move is to MAKE AN ACTION. We must not escape the reality that there are a lot of children who are desperately calling for our help. These children are often working in very difficult circumstances without enough food to eat and decent place to sleep and they don’t deserve that. Children should be provided with enough love and support. They should be allowed to play and enjoy life as children. Having an ambitious goal while escaping trauma that will have a big impact on them as they grow and mature.

And I want to take this opportunity as a Miss Caloocan Candidate not just to be a voice but to be a LOUD VOICE of these CHILDREN. I want to use this platform to build a community to raise a child support awareness, to speak up to those who can’t speak. To help this children to get out of this poor phrase and encourage people to do what they can. I do believe that as a leader and as someone who is very influential on our society. We need to use our voice in order to motivate other people to stand up for what is right, and my mission is to let them to see the beauty on this little children can bring to our country, because I used to be a young child with big ambitions. Therefore I conclude that the children in our community are next generation who can raise and build a better future for Caloocan City.
