DOH Dengue Alert: Early Spikes in Cases
The Department of Health (DOH) has issued an early advisory as dengue cases rise in several regions, especially Central Luzon and Western Visayas. Health officials urge households to follow the “4S Strategy”: Search and destroy breeding sites, Self-protect, Seek early consultation, and Support fogging/spraying in outbreak areas. Families are reminded to check water containers, roof gutters, and potted plants where mosquitoes breed.

PhilHealth Expands Outpatient Dialysis Coverage
Good news for patients with chronic kidney disease: PhilHealth has expanded its coverage to 156 dialysis sessions per year — up from the previous 90. This is expected to ease the financial burden on thousands of Filipino families, though advocacy groups continue to push for full-year coverage (at least 180 sessions).

Pinoy-Led Study on Rice and Diabetes
A group of researchers from UP Manila has published findings in the Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition linking habitual consumption of high-GI white rice with increased diabetes risk in Filipinos. The study recommends substituting at least half a serving with brown rice, red rice, or mixed grains. The DOH says it is considering new nutrition campaigns to make healthier rice more accessible.
