Here are practical life hacks proven to make a real difference.

1. Master Your Inhaler Technique

Many COPD patients don’t receive the full benefit of their medications simply because inhalers are used incorrectly.

Ask your doctor or nurse to check your inhaler technique every visit — then practice at home in front of a mirror.

2. Keep a “Breathing Diary”

Track:

  • breathlessness levels
  • triggers
  • sputum color
  • medication use
  • activity tolerance

Use a small notebook or your phone. Patterns appear quickly — and can prevent exacerbations.

3. Learn the “Pursed-Lip Breathing” Trick

This simple technique opens airways and reduces breathlessness:

  1. Breathe in slowly through your nose

  3. Exhale twice as long

Use this when climbing stairs, taking a bath, or walking long distances.
