There is something inspiring about being in a room filled with physicians united by a common purpose – to learn, serve, and help improve the lives of others.

On May 12, 2026, I had the privilege of participating in a meaningful Round Table Discussion organized by the Philippine Medical Women’s Association (PMWA), where I delivered lectures on Sleep Disorders and Magnesium Supplementation. The session provided an opportunity to share current insights on patient wellness, sleep health, and the growing role of magnesium therapy in clinical practice.

Sponsored by Trianon International Inc., the event brought together PMWA members and guests for an afternoon of learning, collaboration, and professional exchange. Participants actively engaged in the discussions, reflecting the organization’s commitment to continuing medical education and holistic healthcare awareness.

The Trailblazing PMWA

Founded by 39 pioneering women physicians led by the esteemed Dr. Fe del Mundo, PMWA was established on March 27, 1949, during a period when the country was rebuilding after World War II. United by a shared vision, PMWA sought to strengthen fellowship among women physicians while serving the nation through health education, medical service, and community outreach.

For more than seven decades, PMWA has championed women’s leadership in medicine and promoted health and wellness in communities nationwide. Through professional development programs, public health education initiatives, medical missions, charity clinics, and civic projects, the organization has empowered generations of women physicians to become healthcare leaders, advocates, and agents of positive change.

PMWA’s impact has been recognized both locally and internationally. Among its proudest milestones is its affiliation with the Medical Women’s International Association, where Dr. Fe del Mundo later served as the first Filipino president from 1963 to 1967. Her leadership elevated the visibility and underscored the important contributions of Filipino women physicians, and strengthened PMWA’s standing within the global medical community.

Ushering in the new women leaders

Following the RTD lectures, new members were formally inducted into the association, marking another important chapter in PMWA’s continuing growth. The program concluded with a fellowship dinner, giving members the opportunity to strengthen friendships, exchange ideas, and celebrate shared accomplishments.

More than a scientific forum, the event reflected the very values that PMWA has championed throughout its history – excellence, lifelong learning, women empowerment, and compassionate service. As PMWA continues to nurture future generations of women physicians, it remains steadfast in the vision of its founders: to advance healthcare, uplift communities, and improve lives through the noble practice of medicine.
